Indications:
Used in the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney failure, and sometimes prescribed for muscle-wasting conditions. It is also used in contexts where muscle mass and strength need to be preserved or increased.
Administration:
Administered via intramuscular injection, typically every 1 to 4 weeks. Due to its long half-life, it offers a slow and steady release of the active ingredient.
Effects:
Promotes protein synthesis, increases muscle mass, enhances recovery, and improves bone density. Has a milder androgenic profile compared to testosterone, making it less likely to cause certain androgenic side effects.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include fluid retention, increased blood pressure, and decreased natural testosterone production. Prolonged use may elevate estradiol levels, leading to gynecomastia, which can be managed by adjusting dosage or concurrent use of aromatase inhibitors.
Contraindications:
Not recommended for individuals with prostate or breast cancer, severe cardiac, liver, or kidney disease. Should not be used in individuals with a history of androgen-sensitive conditions.
